Youth Knowledge Gatherer Program

Each year, CPPCL hires a team of Knowledge Gatherers (youth/students; aged 15-30) for fall and winter contracts to support projects on equity, diversity, decolonization, and inclusion related to all aspects of parks and protected areas science, research, and management in Canada.

Program & Position Summary

Knowledge Gatherer (KG) duties evolve on an annual basis to best support the exploration of specific themes and issues facing parks, protected areas and conserved areas. Tasks may also be determined by KG’s who are passionate about a particular topic, or who have a hidden perspective or skillset.

In previous years, tasks and projects have included:

  • Park professional interviews
  • Blog/leadership story content creation
  • Webinar facilitation assistance
  • eSummit selection committee membership
  • Solo & team research projects

In addition to diverse projects, KG’s are partnered with participants enrolled in CPPCL’s Leadership Development programs to not only engage and network with current park professionals, but to also provide new insights and learning opportunities for current park leaders. Knowledge Gatherers are also invited to attend the in-person residency portion of the leadership development program to participate in face-to-face collaboration.

Positions are designed to support work/life/school balance. In order to maintain this engaging, flexible and accessible approach, KG positions are:

  • Remote
  • Deliverable based (vs. hours)
  • Flexible (individual & team work hours determined by KG’s)
